Widowers – 7.23.2009 @ The UMS

Widowers returned to the stage on night #1 of the UMS after a long hiatus.  While no new material was showcased, the performance was great, with the audience enjoying every minute of their short set.

Casiotone for the Painfully Alone – 6.30.2009 @ 529 Bar

After having a day to recover from this weekend’s amazing UMS, I’m diving right back into the fire tomorrow night for Casiotone for the Painfully Alone at the Hi-Dive.  (Also on the bill:  Concern, Human Hands, Pussy Control, and Terrors!)

In celebration of Owen’s return to Denver, I’m posting a set I captured last month while in Georgia.  Give it a listen, and please come check out the Denver show and spend yet another night on South Broadway!

David Dondero – 7.13.2009 @ Meadowlark

David Dondero stopped in Denver this week, introducing the Meadowlark audience to a set comprised mostly of new material.  David is currently in Omaha recording his next album, so expect many of these songs to show up on a future release.   Having heard three of his albums, I find these new songs to be some of the strongest yet.  And the references are great–Whiplash the Cowboy Monkey, Darren Hanlon, wild javelina in the Gila, and the Salamanca frog all in one tune?!

Circulatory System – 6.26.2009 @ Nuci’s Space

Nuci’s Space was completely packed on the first night of AthFest, driven by highly anticipated appearances by Circulatory System, Liz Durrett, and Modern Skirts.   Here’s the Circulatory set–not the best quality recording, but still worthy of a listen.  Deviating from the experimental nature of previous shows I’ve witnessed, there is a greater focus on actual song structures in this set.  The shift results in material more accessible to the casual listener, which will help to attract audiences when the band hits the road this fall in support of the forthcoming Signal Morning.

Vitamins – 7.06.2009 @ Burt’s Tiki Lounge

Sorry for the large gap between posts, but I’ve been busy and/or on the road for the last few weeks, which has left little time for prepping any shows.  This doesn’t mean that I haven’t been taping any shows, so expect a flood of recordings to be posted in the near future.  Now, on to the music…

This is a set from Denver’s Vitamins from the first stop on a two-week tour in support of Songs for Stem Cells, a new EP that was released at the Meadowlark on July 4th.  Look for the EP to be stocked in local stores when the band returns to CO.  Better yet, if you live in the northwest, catch one of Vitamins’ remaining dates:

7/11 – Mississippi Pizza, Portland, OR  (w/ Patrick Porter and Doo Crowder)
7/12 – Northern Art Space, Olympia, WA  (w/ Shenandoah Davis and Christopher Francis)
7/13 – The Comet, Seattle, WA  (w/ GOD, Electric Tape, Doo Crowder)
7/15 – Empyrean Coffee House, Spokane, WA
7/16 – Terrapin Station, Boise, ID
7/17 – TBD, Salt Lake City, UT
7/18 – Road 34, Ft. Collins, CO  (w/ Stella Luce)
