After cycling a full 70 miles from Fort Collins, Ben Sollee and Jordan Ellis still found the energy to put on an amazing show at the Oriental Theater.  This particular night closed out the second leg of their Ditch the Van Tour, which finds the duo traveling from show to show by bike.  As Ben explains between songs, the tour not only reduces dependence on fossil fuels, but also provides opportunities to better connect with the cities and people visited.  For more insight, check out the documentary videos on Ben’s tumblr page.

Rachael Pollard was one of the artists I regretting missing at the UMS, especially since it was her first show of 2010.  Rachael doesn’t play around town as often as we’d like, but raising a family is hard work!  She dropped by Yellow Feather Coffee this Thursday for beautiful set in front of a respectful crowd.  Porlolo, Golden Shoulders, and Brett Shady filled out the bill.

Yellow Feather Coffee just opened in July (at 742 Santa Fe) and brews some damn fine coffee.  Be sure to visit the next time you near the Art District.  Jason and Natalie have started bringing in all-ages concerts and unique art shows, so keep an eye on their Facebook page or website for upcoming events.

Portland’s Blue Giant made their first Denver appearance last week at the Hi-Dive in support of Bobby Bare, Jr.  After performing their own set of indie country/folk, they took the stage a second time as Bobby’s supporting band.   Blue Giant’s eponymous debut, released in July, is available for purchase from Amazon.

On tour with Adam Kline and Jonathan Hansard as Golden Shoulders, Brett Shady opened the show at Yellow Feather Coffee with a set of his own material.  The songs were great, and I regret not picking up his new album when I had the chance.  Don’t make the same mistake–The Devil To Pay was released on 8/10/2010 is now available on CD Baby.  (My favorite song from the set?  “Angels, Ghosts & Demons”.)
